The VKM Special School provides Remedial teaching, Special education, Training in self-care and daily living, sports and games and cultural activity programmes for children with cerebral palsy, intellectual disability and related neuro developmental disabilities in the age group of 3 to 18 years. The divisions of Special School are classified into various sub-groups, according to the mental/chronological age of the student, as determined professionally.

The VKM Special School is a Kerala-based Institute that provides developmental, medical and rehabilitation assistance to children with cerebral palsy, intellectual disability and related neuro developmental disabilities, with the objective of facilitating their gradual integration into the mainstream of society. Staffed by a team of qualified, experienced and committed professionals, the focus areas of the Institute include Early Identification, Remedial Correction, Rehabilitative Intervention, Special Education, Vocational Training and Placement.

The staff at VKM Special School comprise of trained professionals skilled in the areas of Child development, Physiotherapy, Speech therapy, Special education, and Vocational training, committed to provide necessary care and corrective intervention. Largely focused on children from economically backward families, the Institute has, over the years, been able to provide necessary developmental, medical and rehabilitation assistance to hundreds of such children from all over the state of Kerala. The Institute is recognized by the Departments of Education and Social justice, Government of Kerala.
