Central IGNDPS: ₹300/month (18–79) | ₹500/month (80+)
State/UT Assistance: Amount & Eligibility Vary by State
Financial Support for Persons with Disabilities
Persons with disabilities may be eligible for disability pension and financial assistance under schemes implemented by the Central Government and State/Union Territory Governments.
These schemes provide financial support to eligible persons with disabilities to help meet their basic needs and promote social security, dignity and independent living.
Important: There is no single pension amount or eligibility rule applicable across all of India. The pension amount, age limit, disability criteria, income limit and application process vary according to the scheme and State/UT.
Central Government – IGNDPS
The Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) is a component of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).
Under the current Central assistance framework:
₹300 per month – eligible persons aged 18–79 years
₹500 per month – beneficiaries aged 80 years and above, under the applicable NSAP pension provisions
The scheme covers eligible persons with severe or multiple disabilities belonging to families meeting the prescribed BPL criteria.
The Central amount is only the Central Government contribution. States/UTs can provide additional assistance from their own funds. Current State/UT top-ups under NSAP pension schemes vary substantially, so the final amount received by a beneficiary can differ from State to State.
State & UT Disability Pension
In addition to IGNDPS, States and Union Territories have their own disability pension / financial assistance schemes.
Depending on the State/UT, eligibility may consider:
Disability percentage and type
Age
Family income
Economic status
Residence/domicile
UDID / Disability Certificate
Other scheme-specific conditions
Therefore, a person may receive a different pension amount in different States/UTs.
Example
Delhi: State financial assistance for eligible persons with disabilities is currently listed at ₹2,500 per month under its applicable scheme. This is a Delhi Government benefit, not a uniform amount applicable throughout India.
Who Can Apply?
There is no single eligibility criterion for all disability pension schemes in India.
Eligibility depends on the particular scheme and may include:
Disability → Age → Income → Residence → Documents → Other Scheme Conditions
A UDID Card or Disability Certificate alone does not automatically guarantee pension
Documents Generally Required
Applicants may be asked for:
UDID Card / Disability Certificate
Aadhaar / prescribed identity proof
Age proof
Address / residence proof
Income / BPL-related document, where applicable
Bank account details
Photograph
Other documents prescribed by the concerned authority
Important for Parents & Applicants
Before applying, always check the latest official State/UT notification, because:
Pension amount, age criteria, disability percentage, income limit and application procedure can differ from one State/UT to another.
Also, Central IGNDPS and State disability pension schemes should not be treated as the same scheme. A State may add its own financial assistance over and above the Central contribution.
