NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE BLIND

The National Association for the Blind was started in Mumbai on 19 January 1952. This national level organization wanted to expand its services to the visually impaired, when the National Association for the Blind Gujarat State Branch was established in 1964 in Ahmedabad under the patronage of Dr. Jagdishbhai Patel. The National Association for the Blind Gujarat is an axis that connects all the organizations and individuals working in the field of visually impaired people in Gujarat. In 1979, the NAB Gujarat State Branch started its own and the country’s first district branch of the National Association for the Blind in Rajkot. Today, it is working to reach the visually impaired people in its service with the family of 23 district branches and taluka branches in Gujarat. The National Association for the Blind has started many new self-employment schemes like integrated education, rural rehabilitation, telephone booths, self-employment centres, etc.

NAB Gujarat State Branch has been the foundation and leading organization for working in many fields like public awareness, self-reliance, education, rehabilitation. We are proud that when any work has to be done for the visually impaired and other disabled people in Gujarat, we can be used as a capable, strong network and we can implement any project in a matter of hours or days. We are proud of the fact that the late Sheth Shri Arvind Lal Bhai, who can be called the head of the hotel business, has been the president of Jangir Kaam, Shri Piyushbhai Desai and currently Dr. Nitinbhai Shah. Many professional experts like Dr. Bhushan Punani, Shri Nandaniben Rawal have joined us, our Gujarat state branch, bustling with many industrialists and dedicated workers, is spreading the fragrance of its work throughout Gujarat. We are also proud of the fact that we have been credited with starting many special schemes like Integrated Education Scheme in Gujarat, Rural Rehabilitation Scheme in Gujarat, Self-employment Schemes in Gujarat, especially for the visually impaired and mostly for all the disabled. Our branches spread from Valsad to Bhuj and from Dahod to Bhavnagar are a testament to our strength. We are proud that our team of educated and experienced people, our team with work ethic has been able to give a special direction to the rehabilitation of the disabled in Gujarat.
