Ashankura Bel Special School

Ashankura BEL Special School, is a non-profit organization, run by Bharat Electronics, for children with special needs. The institution offers the best in terms of care and skill development for the empowerment of children with special needs. We strive to bring a smile on each child’s face, to give hope and respite to parents /caretakers, to eradicate the stigma and create awareness in our society.

What began on 2nd January 1980, in the barracks with one teacher/co-ordinator – Ms. Pramila Varghese and one assistant staff with eight children on the rolls has now in over four decades, grown multi-fold with regards to infrastructure, teaching faculty, supporting staff, services and student strength. This has been made possible by dedicated efforts of Capt. Prabala, Ex-CMD, Bharat Electronics and Mr. Subbarayan, Ex- GM, Bharat Electronics, who firmly stood for the empowerment of children with special needs of BEL Employees. Though, now the school extends its services to the children of Non-BEL employees, residing in the vicinity

The school is amidst well-maintained lawns and garden to provide the children with a pleasant and a cheerful surrounding. The school infrastructure is designed keeping in mind every need for the children and offers an array of facilities to ensure a safe, clean, enabling and a stimulating environment for them to learn and grow.

An individualized education plan is developed for each child in collaboration with the parent after observations study of the child’s abilities, which is the carried out under the guidance of committed teachers and well-trained support staff. A lot of emphasis is laid on physical activity through yoga, physical exercises, and outdoor games for optimum development of gross motor skills and maintaining sound health. We grateful to our partners who ably support us in offering various services and therapies.

Ashankura is buzzing with activities year-around, ranging from celebrations, activities, events, trips,exhibitions to seminars and special visits, keeping the children engaged and enthused.

No dream is too big at Ashankura, we are proud to say that our children have represented India,Internationally, in Special Olympics, during the years 1991 to 2007. A commendable attempt by the children of Ashankura which has brought laurels to the school.
