Shama Vikas Samiti

Shama Vikas Samiti is a registered non-governmental, non-profit, and voluntary organization based in Islampur, Nalanda District, Bihar. Established in 1984 by a group of dedicated social workers under the leadership of Md. Nizamuddin Ansari, the organization came into legal existence upon registration under the Societies Registration Act 21 of 1860 in October 1987.

Since its formation, Shama Vikas Samiti has been working tirelessly for the all-round development of the poor, marginalized, and underprivileged sections of society. Over the past four decades, the Samiti has become one of the most respected community-based NGOs in Bihar, known for its grassroots approach, transparency, and long-term commitment to social welfare.

Our Objective
The primary objective of Shama Vikas Samiti is to create a self-reliant and socially conscious society by addressing issues such as poverty, illiteracy, poor health, and social injustice.
We believe that true development begins when local communities are empowered to participate in their own progress.

Our approach integrates education, health, livelihood, rehabilitation, women’s empowerment, and environmental sustainability into every initiative to ensure holistic and lasting development.

Our Journey
What began in 1984 as a small volunteer group in Islampur has now grown into a dynamic organization with multiple programs across Nalanda and nearby districts.
From adult literacy centers and school awareness campaigns to health, hygiene, and sanitation drives, the organization has touched the lives of thousands of people—especially rural women, children, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals.

The founder, Md. Nizamuddin Ansari, continues to inspire the team through his dedication, empathy, and practical understanding of grassroots challenges. Under his leadership, the Samiti has developed strong partnerships with local communities, government departments, and other NGOs to implement sustainable solutions for Bihar’s rural population.
